An air fryer is a compact countertop appliance that works similarly to a convection oven to warm or cook food with results resembling deep frying without using cooking oil. Air fryers work using a heating element (similar to a stove heating element) along with a fan that circulates hot air surrounding the food contained in a cooking basket.
This produces a crisping and cooking effect very much like standard cooking oil fryer use with a healthier and cleaner result. As the convection heating process is used, cooking in an air fryer is often very similar to standard oven use. However, they offer several benefits including better crisping, less time needed, lower energy consumption, and additional convenience features such as a nonstick food container coating, timers, and more.
