What is a fan?
A fan (also called an electric fan) is a device that uses power to rapidly turn blades to create airflow for cooling purposes. Fan blades can be made of wood, metal, plastic, or other types of materials.
Generally speaking, a home or industrial electric fan is powered by alternating current (AC) voltage used to power an electric motor attached to an assembly with several fan blades. Others (especially portable models and those in vehicles) use direct current (DC) power to supply the motor for the same purposes.
Fans create a moderate to very high amount of airflow under low pressure. Many types spin with a speed of several hundred rounds per minute (RPM) while others have an even faster spin rate. Some but not all fans are reversible and can blow air in the opposite direction if the design allows it.
